Articles galore from the UKASFP and beyond.

0

Hi Team,
A couple of valuable resources.

From Vicky Bliss at the UKASFP
The winter edition of Solution News is out and can be found at http://www.ukasfp.co.uk/solution-news/editions.cfm
And from Guy Shennan

Dear all

Context, produced by AFT, the Association of Family Therapy, is "the magazine for family therapy and systemic practice in the UK".

The December issue landed on my doormat this morning and it is a special issue, devoted almost entirely to the solution-focused approach, with the guest editor being a certain John Wheeler (the general editor being one Brian Cade). And it's brilliant - John has surpassed himself. Excellent articles by lots of UKASFP members, and others, including Alasdair Macdonald, Greg Vinnicombe, Paul Z Jackson & Janine Waldman, Steve Freeman, John himself, Lindsey Hampson & Lauren Clark; an interview with Insoo by John, an obituary of the influential MRI brief therapist, Dick Fisch by Brian, a review by our chair, Andrew, of the recently published book on the solution focused research base edited by Franklin et al; an excellent thought-provoking article by Jim Wilson; and great contributions from abroad by Steve Langer (US, but about his work in Uganda), Shelja Sen (India) and Tomasz Switek  (Poland, and 2012's EBTA conference organiser).

And I hope that Anne Proctor is reading this, as some time ago, Anne, Paul Hackett mentioned an article of mine on groupwork and you asked for the reference. Well, it wasn't published at the time, but it's in this issue of Context.

All members of AFT receive the magazine and I'm not sure how else you get it, but the person to contact is Sue Kennedy, at s.kennedy@aft.org.uk
John - any other ways people can obtain it?

Many thanks John - this superb issue of Context can only do solution focused practice a power of good in the world of family therapy and beyond.

cheers
Guy

Hi Team,
A small but perfectly formed Staffordshire IG on Thursday.
Topics under discussion included;
Problem free talk, competency of the individual balancing pathology, future of the IG and venues changes, developing a more inclusive IG, SFP training and, inevitably, biscuits;-)

All the best,
Steve

Lifelong Brain Plasticity

Hi team,
This is an interesting listen. It raises some questions for people involved in therapy, counselling, education, coaching and getting older.
Lifelong brain plasticity and challenges to some ideas on development.

All the best,
Steve

Update

Hi team,
Hope all’s well there.
I’m hoping to get the Solution Focused Practice Interest groups off the ground again.
The next one will be on Thursday 24th November at the Teaching Annexe, Edward Myers Centre, Harplands Hospital, ST4 6 TH. We usually get together for a cuppa before the group starts at 12:30. No experience of SFP needed as it’s about interest rather than expertise. If you have any ideas for content please let me know and I’ll see what we can do.
Here’s a link to a summary of evidence to support SFP in a range of areas http://www.evidence.nhs.uk/search?q=Solution%20Focused%20Brief%20Therapy&smr=1 It is possible to refine the list by area of practice and/or date using the tabs on the page.
I’d be interested to hear where people are using SFP. A line or two on where and how would be great. I’ll then collate the information and feed it back,
All the best,
Steve
